Frequently Asked Questions

What are your Fees?

I offer a free 15-minute consultation by phone, online, or in person so we can chat about your needs and see if I’m the right fit for you. After that, sessions are £50 for 50 minutes and can be online or in person. If sessions are cancelled or missed with less than 24-hour’s notice, you will still be charged.

Is it possible to attend sessions online?

Yes, if you would prefer I can arrange sessions for you online, via Teams or FaceTime.

How often should I come to counselling?

People normally attend sessions on a weekly basis. We can agree a weekly session time and day.

How many sessions will I need?

This is up to you and is something we will discuss on a continual basis. I do recommend that we initially commit to a minimum of 6 sessions together.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Payment can be made via bank transfer, and I ask that this is received a minimum of 24 hours before your scheduled session.

How can I find you and do you have parking facilities?

Both my Tadley and Dummer practices are approximately 10 minutes car journey away from Basingstoke. I can share details of how to find me when we book our first session. Both locations have ample private parking available.

Do you offer discounts?

I offer a limited number of discounted spaces to counselling students. Please get in touch to discuss further.

What happens in the first session?

In the first session I can answer any questions you have, and I will explain how I work, so that we can ensure we work together ethically and safely.  The first session is also an opportunity for you to help me understand why you have chosen to attend therapy.

Do my sessions remain confidential?

Rest assured that all information shared within our sessions remains confidential – please see clause 4 on the Terms & Conditions page of my website.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Opinions on this differ but it’s generally thought that counselling tackles problems at the time of the crisis, whereas psychotherapy focuses on longer-term psychological problems.

Additionally, it is thought that psychotherapists often use other methods alongside talking therapies, for example, art, music, movement therapy and EDMR therapy, which is an approach that is designed to ‘unblock’ the brain’s processing so that traumatic memories can become ordinary ones.

I am trained as a psychotherapist and can work with clients on a short-term or long-term basis as required.

I can offer some creative methods to help us work together. I can also offer horticultural therapy, which involves working and talking with clients in the garden. Another alternative is walking and talking therapy. These may be helpful for clients in the early stages of therapy to help them feel less anxious or in addition to traditional talking therapy.

What is an integrative counsellor/therapist?

There are many different types of therapy used by counsellors and psychotherapists, some involve looking at past relationships and experiences to make sense of them, and others involve looking at the here and now. As an integrative therapist I can work in a way that suits you, but essentially my approach is grounded in person-centred theory. This sounds fancy, but it basically means that it’s all about you, your needs and your preferences - we can figure what these are as we go along. The important thing is the relationship between you and the counsellor. It’s hard to get a sense of this on a written piece of information. So, I would suggest that you get in touch for a free, no-obligation chat with me to see how you feel once we have spoken.
